Principal Investigator – Joceline Andersen
Joceline Andersen is an Assistant Teaching Professor at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. She has published several peer-reviewed articles on topics including cinematic representations of technology, LGBT film festivals, and community building through online video sharing.
Her book Stars and Silhouettes: the History of the Cameo Role in Hollywood examines how audiences use their recognition of actors playing themselves in small roles to interact with mass entertainment while affirming their mastery of celebrity culture. This book is now available from Wayne State University Press.
She is currently pursuing a project examining a political economy of industrial training videos in the forestry industry in BC.
She teaches in the Journalism, Communication, and New Media and English and Modern Languages departments at TRU.
Research Assistant – Brendan Coulter
Brendan Coulter is an undergraduate student at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. He is pursuing a BA double major in Communications & Journalism.
Research Assistant – Reanna Tyrrell
Reanna Tyrrell is an undergraduate student at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. She is a Communications major focusing in the Public Relations stream with a minor in Marketing. Through her work as a student research assistant, she has read applicable research materials including research journals, articles, and books with a particular focus on the fields of Ecocinema and Indigenous perspectives in New Media and Cinema to assemble a bibliography for Dr. Andersen’s research.
Research Assistant – Kirstynn Decicco
Kirstynn Decicco is an undergraduate student at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. She is a Communications major focused in the Public Relations stream pursuing a minor in Economics. Her contribution to this project is a student research assistant reading applicable bibliographies and researching journals, articles and books that could pertain to Dr. Andersen’s research! She finds this project interesting as her education is regulation and policy based with a specialization in natural resources such as forestry and land use. She finds it interesting to take a different, philosophical approach to numerical data studied in her program.
Research Assistant- Nandita Adhikary
Nandita Adhikary is a graduate student at Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops. She is studying Masters in Human Rights and Social Justice. She has another Masters in English Literature where she studied cultural and media studies. As a graduate research assistant of Dr. Andersen, she reads articles, blogs, academic journals and watches audio-visuals relevant to eco-cinema and forestry. The research experience helps her to bring social justice perspective into the effect of industrialization in B.C. forestry. She is also assisting in gathering information and academic citation for SSHRC grant for eco-cinema copyright policy along with other academics and researchers in Canada.
Research Assistant – Zack Kuan
Zack Kuan is an undergraduate student at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. Zack is working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a Minor in Political Studies. His interest in the project developed from a desire to explore the intersection between media and the natural resource industry.
Research Assistant – Paige Kidder
Paige Kidder is an undergraduate student at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. She is finishing her Bachelor of Communication and Digital Journalism with a major in Journalism and a focus in Public Relations. Her interest in this research project stems from her passion for media and storytelling and her previous research in citizen journalism during the Fairy Creek logging protests.
Research Assistant – Carlein Kay
Carlein Kay is an undergraduate student at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. She is a Communications major with a focus in New Media and Media Studies. Her interest in this project comes from her curiosity of finding and preserving lost media.
